A compost bin available for purchase

Lugging that heavy trash container down a slopping driveway in the pouring rain...well, you get the idea. Perhaps you should consider adding a compost bin as part of your cabin living plan. Whether you purchase a manufactured bin or build one, you can use it to fertilize your way to a healthy garden by composting your kitchen waste, leaves and grass cuttings.

Of course, some cabin dwellers just toss their garbage into a pile in the yard. Not a good idea. Compost piles attract bears, raccoons, insects and vermin.

And, an enclosed compost bin can make better compost in less time and save money on fertilizer, which often contains chemicals harmful to fragile lake ecology. Compost bins are safe, efficient and can lead you to that dream garden you see in magazines.

Once you have decided to purchase or build a cabin compost bin, you must decide which of the various shapes and size compost bins would be best for you. A good guide is to visualize all the material you would be tossing into the trash. Imagine all of that going into a cabin compost bin instead and pick your size.

Start now to compost your way to green gardening and save money, too!
