Leverage your cabin stay into a weight-loss tool

You know you should lose some weight. You've tried some diets and weight-loss techniques, but you always end up giving in to temptation because -- if you're like most people in advanced societies -- hamburgers, French fries, milkshakes, cookies, candy, and ice cream are just minutes away from where you live. Here's a thought: the next time you're at your cabin for an extended stay (a couple of weeks or more), use the cabin's remote location as a weight-loss "tool."

The thing is, most cabins are in locations that are not close to shopping areas. It probably takes more than a few minutes to get to a grocery store, bakery, ice-cream shop, or fast-food joint. Use this to your advantage!

You can make a game of trying to use only what you have on hand at the cabin to make tasty and healthy meals. For example: make it a rule that you'll only go to the grocery store once a week. Promise yourself and your spouse or partner that -- except for your scheduled weekly shopping trips -- there will be no running to the store for potato chips, cookies, ice cream, or any other greasy or gooey goodies.

And once your jeans start to feel a little loose, keep the momentum going by adding a walk or hike to your daily cabin-living routine.
