About site owner of CabinStuff.com
In 1989 my husband, Chuck Lucas and I, along with Chuck's brother, Dale Lucas bought 40 acres of land in Northern Minnesota site unseen. Not that we had wanted to purchase it site unseen. We had tried to cross country ski into this land in the winter, but got lost in the woods trying to find it. So we submitted a bid on the land without having seen it.
We were informed by Minnesota Power, the sellers of the land that we had won the auction and we were now owners of these 40 land locked areas. Although it has taken us a number of years to be able to actually use the land, it has been a great experience for us. The land is located on a small 40 area lake deep in the wooded wilderness of Northern Minnesota.
It took us about 6 years to finish cutting down the trees to be able to put in a half mile road from the existing logging road. After cutting down the trees for about 3/4 of the road, I became impatient and enlisted the help of several friends including a local logger. The logger cut the trees down, and 2 friends, my husband and I pulled the trees out of the way. We then hired a road making crew to put in the road for us which needed to meet the requirements established by Minnesota Power.
After getting a road in, which actually came off of a 2 mile logging road, we were finally able to be able to use the land. We pulled a pop up tent camper into the land, parked it there, leveled it, and have left it there ever since. At first we enjoyed the land and our camper. Then we became more and more anxious to build a cabin.
We began our cabin in the spring of 2003. With no significant building experience, we set out to build our cabin. We read books and asked questions of people we knew in the building trades. We would have loved to have had a web site to go to where we could have gotten our questions answered instead of searching for answers to the many questions we had as we went along. As a result, we decided to create a web site that provides information, the sharing of information among cabin builders and owners, a place to share pictures, and much much more. I hope you decide to join us.
With much excitement and anticipation, LeaRae Keyes
